STENOS was conceived out of a camping trip, a REALLY BIG camping trip. While sitting in a camp chair among 1000+ dudes in the middle of a field somewhere off-grid in Kentucky, Matt Owens imagined what it would be like to create outdoor gear that would help people better connect with God in nature.

This was Matt’s first “Man Camp” experience with Crossroads Church. It was an off-grid, primitive weekend camping experience for men that served as a break from the daily grind, and was life-changing for Matt. This was not a typical Church camp but a place where men would be challenged, admit their vices and lean in on one another to “break chains”.

Throughout the weekend everyone was repping their favorite outdoor gear while sharing tips/tricks. Matt knew he wanted to create the best outdoor gear that could be passed down generations, but the brand needed to be inspired by Scripture. During a solitude session at camp, Matt decided on the Scripture from Matthew 7:13-14 as it spoke to challenges he was facing with rebuilding his marriage.  “Wide is the road that leads to destruction and narrow is the path that leads to life, yet only a few find it”.

STENOS (derived from Greek) means “narrow” and is found in the Greek Lexicon Bible in the Scripture we are powered by, Matthew 7:13-14.

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it… The wide path leads to sin and destruction. The narrow path leads to eternal life in heaven by following Jesus.”
